How the Thread Score works
Thread Score compares each article with the other ARIADNE articles of its field, two at a time and at the same age: an article of six years is compared with one of two years by the citations each had in its first two years. Its percentile is the share of them it was cited more than (50 is typical; ties count half). Only citations from other people count: a citing article that shares an author is left out, and so are retracted articles.
Because every pair is compared at the same age and every year is in the comparison, an old article keeps climbing while it is cited, a strong year weighs little, and a recent article is not judged against years it has not lived. A field with fewer than 20 articles is compared within its area, then with every article.
A person’s Thread Score is the mean percentile of their articles, each weighted by their share of it (one author: all of it; three authors: a third), with one typical article added, so that a single lucky article does not make 100. Amendments do not count. Anyone can compute it again from the chain and the articles.
