Claim your reputation
Reputation on ARIADNE is a whole number per address and per field. It never decreases, and nobody gains reputation from their own action. Most of it arrives on its own; the reputation from votes for your articles is the exception: you claim it, with a transaction (an action signed by your wallet; see the glossary) of your own. This page explains when and how. The arithmetic behind vote weight is in reputation and vote weight.
What arrives on its own, and what you claim
Section titled “What arrives on its own, and what you claim”| When someone else… | who gains | in which field | how much | how |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| votes for an article | each confirmed author | the primary field, and half of that in the secondary field | a share of the article’s total vote weight | claimed |
| marks a review as useful | the reviewer | the article’s primary field | 3 × the voter’s weight (nothing if the voter is an author of the article) | at once |
| votes for a comment | the commenter | the article’s primary field | the voter’s weight ÷ 5, rounded down | at once |
| the author resolves a comment | the commenter | the article’s primary field | 5 | at once |
Votes for an article do not move anyone’s reputation when they are cast: they add up in the article, and each author claims their share when they want.
Who can claim, and when
Section titled “Who can claim, and when”- The submitter (the wallet that published) can always claim.
- Co-authors claim once they have confirmed their co-authorship. A declared co-author who has not confirmed sees “confirm first” instead of a Claim button; see co-authors.
- Statuses. Claims are accepted while the article is a preprint, under review or a closed version. They pause while it is disputed. Reputation not claimed before an article is retracted is lost, for every author.
What a claim gives you
Section titled “What a claim gives you”The article has one equal share per author: N = 1 + the number of declared co-authors, fixed at publication. With T the total weight of the article’s votes, each confirmed co-author is entitled to T ÷ N rounded down, and the submitter to T ÷ N rounded up.
A claim:
- adds to your reputation in the article’s primary field what you are entitled to and have not claimed yet, up to what the daily limit still allows;
- adds half of that amount (rounded down) to the secondary field, if the article has one, within that field’s own daily limit.
What the daily limit holds back in the primary field stays claimable on later days. A shortfall in the secondary field is not carried over.
Worked example. An article with two declared co-authors (N = 3) receives votes of weight 1, 2, 3 and 5: T = 11. Each confirmed co-author is entitled to 3, the submitter to 4. When the submitter claims, their reputation in the primary field grows by 4 and in the secondary field by 2. If the article later receives a vote of weight 4 (T = 15), each author can claim one more share: 5 in total each, so 2 more for the co-authors and 1 more for the submitter.
The daily limit
Section titled “The daily limit”An address can gain at most 50 reputation per field per day (a UTC day), from all sources together. For reviews and comments, whatever exceeds the day’s limit is lost. For articles nothing is lost: what cannot be claimed today stays claimable on later days.
Your profile shows, under Reputation by field, your reputation and your vote weight in each field.
Claim from the article page
Section titled “Claim from the article page”- Open the article with your wallet connected. When you have something to claim, the actions show Claim N reputation.
- Click it. The panel says how much goes to the primary field, that the secondary field receives half, and that at most 50 per field and day are granted, the rest staying claimable.
- Check the cost, click Confirm: claim and sign. The button becomes Claimed.
When there is nothing new, the page says “Nothing to claim right now: your share of the votes is X, and you have claimed Y.”
Claim from your profile
Section titled “Claim from your profile”Open your profile from the account menu. The Publications table lists every article you are an author of, with the columns article, role, status, votes, entitled, claimed and claimable.
- Claim on a row claims that article.
- Claim all (N articles), shown when more than one article has something to claim, claims them one after another. Your wallet asks you to sign each one, and a line under the table reports each result.
- Reload the page to see the new totals once the indexer has caught up.
What it costs
Section titled “What it costs”The first claim in a field creates your own reputation record there: a deposit of 0.0253 ALGO per field the first time, then 0. An article with a secondary field can need two records on your first claim. Each claim also pays the network fee. If you already reviewed or commented in a field, your record for it exists. See costs and deposits.
What can go wrong
Section titled “What can go wrong”| The claim is refused with… | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| nothing to claim | you already claimed everything you are entitled to | wait for new votes |
| daily cap exhausted for the primary field | you received 50 in that field today | claim again after midnight UTC |
| co-authorship not accepted | you are declared but have not confirmed | confirm on the article page first |
| claiming not allowed in this status | the article is disputed or retracted | wait for the dispute to end; after a retraction nothing can be claimed |
Claim before you retract an article: retraction forfeits what is still unclaimed.
